Millie Bobby Brown on Netflix: Is Her Heroic Fantasy Movie Any Good?

Releasing on Netflix this Friday, March 8, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s The Lady and the Dragon is number one on the platform. The film, one of the streaming giant’s 2024 blockbusters, marks the return of Millie Bobby Brown ahead of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things – expected in 2025.

In this tale, like no other, the actress plays the role of Elodie, a young woman almost betrothed to a charming prince. During the ceremony, he discovers the fate his relatives have prepared for him: he is thrown into a cave and sacrificed to a dragon. All he needs to do is find a way out to save his skin and his family.

On AlloCiné, The Lady and the Dragon received a press rating of 2.8 out of 5 and an audience rating of 2.6 out of 5. What did they think of it?

According to Marina Julian (5 out of 5):

It’s a very good movie! It’s been a long time since Reign of Fire and this type of heroic fantasy film. Go back to the time of castles, princesses, elaborate decorations, impressive magic. Very interesting topics are covered, love, betrayal, loyalty, family. This movie takes you on a journey into a fantasy world and is not childish, full of action and twists. Really great!

According to Sunshine1 (4.5 out of 5):

Why is it rated so well? Because we’re so lacking in heroic fantasy movies these days… the special effects are convincing, the green background is well put together and the dragon design is truly terrifying. Strong heroine with sometimes 1 or two horror and action scenes. I would love to see a movie of this caliber in theaters and then buy it on Blu-ray. damage.”

According to Agnès L. (3.5 out of 5):

Do not read the synopsis before watching this movie, as it will give you too much information about what this medieval story contains. We should approach watching by leaving our adult principles of logic and consistency in the locker room.

It’s kind of a fantasy tale because it’s about a princess with a very thick skin who wants to survive against a dragon. And it is in this register of survival that I will place this film, which did not bore me and even entertained me at times..”

According to Evan D (2 of 5):

Well, at first this was the movie I was waiting for until I found out Netflix was producing it. I finally decided to watch and I’ll start with the positive. Dragon Flame is pretty well done! That’s it!

Unfortunately, this is yet another failed movie by Netflix. The script isn’t particularly original, but it could have been if the rest was good. The special effects are dramatic! The sets (if you can call it that) are fake, especially in the cave.

We can clearly see that everything is shot in a studio with a green screen. I really think that if Millie Bobby Brown wants to have a recognized acting career, she should end her contract with Netflix..”

According to Tarkovsky (1 of 5):

Run, you poor fools! Curiosity got the better of me, and here I am faced with a bitter observation: The Lady and the Dragon is a ship! The plot, if there is one, falls apart in a succession of elaborate clichés and predictable twists.

The dialogues, on the other hand, range between stilted and ridiculous, punctuated by sentences worthy of a bad TV movie, and I won’t even stop at simplistic and crudely presented morals.

The staging is annoyingly lazy. The camera simply follows the actors without any aesthetic research. A film to be avoided at all costs. Netflix once again offers a formulaic and silly product, an insult to the fantasy genre.”

By brand (0.5 out of 5):

Overall the movie is visually successful despite the bad embedded green background, but then the rest of it… how can I say… low quality, predictable plot, dialogues that are cheesy and meaningless, non-existent action scenes and so on… although there was room for something To make it really successful. The only positives are Hans Zimmer’s visuals and music.
