Released in theaters in 2001, the comedy Legally Blonde, which tells the story of a talented and optimistic young woman (Reese Witherspoon) who tries to win back her ex-boyfriend by enrolling in law school at Harvard, was a huge public success, grossing more than $140 million worldwide.
You may have forgotten, but a sequel, The Blonde Strikes Back, was released in 2003. Much less successfully than the first part. While Legally Blonde drew more than 329,000 viewers in France in 2001, its sequel two years later had just 47,000.
A third installment in the pipeline?
Despite the disappointment of this sequel at the box office, a third installment should definitely come out. The project is being prepared since 2018.
“I’m still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 will be done, that everything will fall into place”Reese Witherspoon said, on USA Today. “It’s like Top Gun. They’ve been waiting a long time to do another version of the movie, and I really liked the nostalgia they put into it.”
“It gave us a lot of inspiration for what we wanted to do with the Elle Woods character.”Reese Witherspoon continues. “We want to make sure that for this new movie we have everything that was important to people back then.”
Top Gun Maverick has inspired many
A priori, comedy does not have much in common Blonde revenge and the recent blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. Except for the big whiff of nostalgia that the team wants to ride on.
The film will be directed by Jamie Sook, and written by Dan Gurr, Mindy Kaling, Karen McColla and Kirsten Smith. Reese Witherspoon will return as Elle Woods alongside Alana Ubach, Jennifer Coolidge and Jessica Caufel. The shooting date is not yet known.
