The survey was carried out by the free streaming platform Tubi and it emerged that 74% of millennials (born between 1980 and around the first half of the 1990s) and representatives of generation Z (born between the second half of the 1990s and 2010) have a preference for original content.
According to the research, “viewers are increasingly looking for new and innovative ideas that push the boundaries of what is possible, rather than rehashed versions of existing stories.” This can be demonstrated by the lower-than-expected performances in theaters of recent productions such as The wonders, Indiana Jones AND Jurassic world.
Of this audience, 71% also said they wanted content produced by “small, independent creators.” Respondents said they prefer to feel like they are directly supporting the creators by watching the film or series.
Additionally, 89% expressed a desire to have a library that offers a wide range of content, from true crime stories to classic Hollywood films.
The study reveals that 96% of the public continues to watch similar series The office AND Friendsindicating the strong feeling of nostalgia that still exists today.
