The movie hits a billion dollars!
The latest Hollywood blockbuster is without a doubt ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. The film has overtaken ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ as the biggest movie of 2022 at the global box office (data coming via Variety).
At the time of writing this article, lThe latest installment of Top Gun has surpassed a billion dollars at the box office, currently standing at $1.006 billion worldwidemaking it Tom Cruise’s highest-grossing film worldwide, as well as the biggest film of the year.
Cruise’s previous highest-grossing film was 2018’s “Mission: Impossible: Fallout,” which earned a total of $791.1 million worldwide.
‘Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness previously held the record for the most successful film of 2022 at the global box office.grossing a total of $943 million.
Domestically, the film had already broken the record as the biggest movie of the year, with a total of 521 million in domestic box office sales. Added to 484.7 million in international sales, the film finally surpassed 1 billion this weekend, just 31 days after the film’s release.
The Tom Cruise movie is one of only three pandemic-era blockbuster movies to surpass the $900 million mark at the global box office.: ‘Doctor Strange 2’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ have grossed $950 million and $1.9 billion worldwide, respectively.
Following the first Top Gun movie, which was released 35 years ago, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ sees Tom Cruise reprise his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, a Navy aviator. At this point in his career, the pilot has to be an instructor for a new squadron of fighter pilots. Among them will be Lieutenant Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw, the son of Maverick’s old partner Goose, is played by Miles Teller.
