Duello scored a goal that led to penalties in the 48th minute of the second half
Nacional is the latest team to secure a place in the Libertadores group stage. With enormous tension, the Uruguayan team sought a 2-1 victory in regular time, against Always Ready, and qualified on penalties. The duel in question took place in the city of Montevideo.
As in the first leg, the hosts opened the score quickly and with medium-range shots. This time, however, it was the Uruguayans who celebrated. After a wrong cut by the Bolivian defense, Mauricio Pereyra plays for Leandro Lozano. With his left leg, the right back sends the ball into goalkeeper Alain Baroja’s far left corner.
Despite the equalizer after seven minutes, the rest of the opening phase was characterized by nervousness. Especially on the charrúa side, where attempts to open spaces in the Always Ready defense ‘collided’ with the congestion in front of the area.
The visitors, in turn, grew as the initial stages progressed and gained space to also try to be offensive. And the reward came in the 48th minute, when José Carabalí crossed from the left and Darlin Rodriguez, infiltrating the penalty area, arrived with the first shot to fill the net.
The way it happened
The second half, as expected, was essentially Bolso looking for a way to overcome the mark. However, with notorious difficulty in transforming their movements into spaces for staging shows. The El Alto club wanted to keep the duel at a slower pace. Something that undoubtedly also unnerved the fans who packed the Gran Parque Central.
The growing tension and continuous pauses in the duel were reflected in the 11 minutes of extra time awarded by the Argentine referee Dario Herrera. And, at the base of the abafa, a ball bounced from a corner went up into the area and Mateo Antoni simply blocked it to take the dispute towards penalties.
In the lime sign, ideal for experience in continental competitions. While all Nacional’s hitters converted, Marcelo Suárez stopped in front of goalkeeper Mejía and the Uruguayans managed to qualify.
