At the end of January, Netflix made an announcement that surprised many: for the first time in its history, the American giant decided to cancel the release of a film that had already been shot. We are talking here about the SF production The Mothership with Halle Berry, in which she investigates the disappearance of her husband. When he discovers a strange object under their house, he and his children embark on a frantic race to find it.
The film was cancelled, but the series began
If this decision was made by mutual agreement between the parties, it was certainly a severe blow to its director Matt Charmaine. Especially since it was his first time behind the camera, someone we know best for his work as a screenwriter (namely Bridge of Spies). But the latter does not seem to hold grudges.
in the article Deadline, we learn that Charman is working on a new project in collaboration with Netflix. This time, not a movie, but a TV series called The Choice, hosted by actress Suran Jones (Dr. Foster). This British thriller plunges us into the upper echelons of the political sphere. Filming is due to begin this month on the other side of the Channel, with an estimated launch in 2025.
The Holly Berry Case
Matt Charman isn’t the only one continuing to work with Netflix despite the disappointment of The Mothership. We remind you that Halle Berry signed a contract with the American giant in 2021 to participate in several performances. In the absence of his sci-fi film, he can (usually) be seen this year in The Union, an action thriller alongside JK Simmons, Mike Colter and Mark Wahlberg.
The latter portrays Mike, a construction worker from New Jersey and a pragmatic guy who finds himself immersed in the world of spies when his former high school girlfriend Roxanne (Berry) recruits him for a high-risk mission in the name of… American secret services.
