Ukraine attacks Russia region during presidential elections

The Belgorod government reported 1 dead and 3 injured

This Friday (15th), Ukraine bombed the Russian region of Belgorod, on the border between the two countries, in the midst of elections which should confirm President Vladimir Putin’s continued power until 2030.

According to the Belgorod government, the toll from the attacks is at least one dead – a member of the regional defense forces – and three injured, while missile warnings were activated and deactivated several times.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said “all infiltration attempts into Belgorod from Ukraine over the past three days have been contained” and voting operations in the region continue despite the attacks.

“My wife and I will go to our constituency to do what each of us must do: a choice for the future of our children,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a video posted on social media.

The presidential elections in Russia will last until Sunday (17), but there is no doubt about the result, only what percentage of Putin’s victory will be.

“I would like to congratulate Vladimir Putin on his landslide victory in the elections. No opposition, no freedom, no choice,” joked the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, on X (formerly Twitter).

Voting is also taking place in the Ukrainian provinces partially occupied and illegally annexed by Russia: Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia, amid accusations of fraud, forced participation in the vote and the absence of real opponents – the most famous of whom, Alexey Navalny, died under circumstances suspects in a penal colony in Siberia on February 16. .
