Rossi becomes the goalkeeper with the longest time without conceding a goal in Flamengo’s history

The Argentine reaches 960 consecutive minutes without suffering losses and beats Catarele’s record

Agustín Rossi entered Flamengo history this Saturday (16th), after the goalless draw against Fluminense. The Argentine became the goalkeeper with the most consecutive minutes without missing an official match in the club’s history, beating Cantarele’s record which had already stood for 45 years.

Rossi reached 960 minutes without conceding a goal in the 40th minute of the second half. Thus, the number 1 survived the 959 minutes that the Rossoneri idol spent without leaking, between November 1978 and February 1979. The additions of the matches are not counted in the sums.

Furthermore, the minutes recorded do not include friendly matches. Therefore, Flamengo’s pre-season matches in the United States, against Philadelphia Union and Orlando City, in January this year, were not taken into account.

Rossi has not appeared in official competitions since the final match of the 2023 Brazilian Championship. The Argentine has not conceded a goal since the 25th minute of the first half of the 1-0 defeat against San Paolo, at Morumbi.

In the mixed zone, after the draw with Fluminense, Rossi talked about records and said he was honored to beat Cantarele. However, he was keen to enhance the collective and shared the credits with the red-black collective.

– I think that this goal achieved today, that is, overtaking Cantarele in the history of Flamengo, is very important. But I always say that he is not just the goalkeeper, he is the collective game of 11 players on the pitch. The truth is that this made a lot of difference in this defensive undertaking – said the Argentine.
