Hit Man: Jake Gyllenhaal claims he contracted bacteria while filming

Gyllenhaal was injured while filming the remake of ‘Sicker’ and contracted bacteria that could lead to death

Jake Gyllenhaal contracted a bacteria while filming Hire Killerremake of the 1989 film. The actor plays the protagonist Elwood Dalton and, during a fight scene involving glass, he ended up getting injured.

“We fought on the floor, we fought around tables, we fought around glass”, he described Gyllenhaal in conversation Dax Shepard on the podcast Armchair Expert (via People). “I put my hand on the counter, right on top of the f***ing glass.”

“I felt the glass entering my hand,” he continued. “I remember the feeling and thought, ‘That’s a lot of glass.'” Due to the large number of fight scenes, the crew was used to dealing with “things like that all the time,” including staph infection. The problem is caused by the bacteria coming into contact with open wounds, resulting in rashes and swelling. If left untreated, staphylococcal infection can lead to death.

Gyllenhaal He cannot say for sure which shots led to the injuries that became infected. “I think it was in that scene, remember, when you came with a piece of wood?”, asked the actor to his co-star Conor McGregor, who also participated in the podcast. “I grabbed his arm and thought, ‘Oh, maybe I’m hurt.’ But my whole arm swelled up. In the end, it was staph.”

“Luckily, I was really trying to be careful with everything we did and with my body while we were filming. I didn’t have any other major injuries,” the actor added.
