The new trailer for Penguin, the series, has just been released spin off from the Batman film, by Matt Reeves (Planet of the Apes), released in 2022. The material was revealed on Friday (22), giving fans a taste of what will happen in the eight-episode production of Max (formerly HBO Max). .
In the video, which you can watch below, we see Irish actor Colin Farrell in an impressive performance as Oswald Cobblepot, the villain known as the Penguin, who wreaks havoc on the streets of Gotham City.
The plot of the series, which is scheduled for release in the second half of this year (for now, no precise date), picks up the story of the shrewd criminal played by Farrell shortly after the events of the 2022 Batman film – which starred Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight and which is not directly linked to the DC Comics cinematic universe.
With Gotham plunged into a mafia power vacuum, the Penguin sees an opportunity to rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld and become one of Batman’s most formidable antagonists.
In addition to Farrell, the cast of Penguin also includes big names such as Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Rhenzy Feliz (Marvel’s Runaways), Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Mist), Michael Zegen (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Cristin Milioti ( How I Met Your Mother), James Madio (Band of Brothers), Scott Cohen (Gilmore Girls) and Deidre O’Connell (Daredevil).
Craig Zobel (Mare of Easttown) is responsible for directing the work, with Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD) in the role of showrunner.
Sarah Aubrey, head of Max’s original productions, had already revealed it Variety that the series is a bridge between the Batman 1 and 2 films (which are expected to hit theaters in 2026).
The executive provided further details on Penguin, underlining that the intent of the series is to demonstrate the extent to which Cobblepot is capable of conquering Gotham City. “It’s a great example of having time in eight episodes to tell a longer story with lots of delicious twists and new characters.”
