Sony Pictures has announced that the upcoming “Ghostbusters” movie will premiere on December 20, 2023.
The sequel to “Ghostbusters: Beyond” will once again see director Jason Reitman and writer Gil Kenan at the helm, and this time the storyline will return to New York City, where the 1980s movies took place.
The franchise’s official social media profile has provided more details. “The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was on its way back to Manhattan – the home of the Ghostbusters. This is where our story begins. The code name is ‘Firehouse’.”
Firehouse, in this case, refers to the old firehouse that was transformed into the headquarters of the “Ghostbusters” in the early films.
Released in 2021, “Ghostbusters: Beyond” follows the grandchildren of one of the original “Ghostbusters”, Egon Spengler (played by the late Harold Ramis), as they discover their grandfather’s legacy on a farm in rural Oklahoma.
The film starred Finn Wolfhard (“Stranger Things”) and McKenna Grace (“Annabelle 3”) as Spengler’s grandchildren, and also included Carrie Coon (“The Leftovers”) as the children’s mother and Paul Rudd ( “Man -ant”) as your teacher.
The cast also included appearances on the original “Ghostbusters” and was directed by Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two feature films.
