In Espírito Santo there are 12 confirmed deaths; in Rio de Janeiro there are at least 8
The heavy rains that left the South-Eastern states on danger alert, issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), caused the deaths of at least 20 people this Sunday morning, the 24th.

According to the updated Civil Protection bulletins of the respective states, obtained by Terra, there are 12 confirmed deaths in Espírito Santo. In Rio de Janeiro, 8 deaths were recorded.
In Espírito Santo, 273 people are homeless and the number of homeless is approximately 4,481. In Rio de Janeiro, no state-level data on homeless and homeless people has been released, but in Petrópolis, one of the hardest-hit cities, there are 533 people in “support points.”
Until 10am this Sunday, the areas of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo were under a “Great Danger” alert. But now, according to new forecasts from Inmet, the severity level in the south-eastern region has dropped to “potential danger”.

The situation, with forecasts of rain between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour or up to 50 millimeters per day, with intense winds between 40 and 60 kilometers per hour, continues until 10am on Monday 25th. Compared to the “Great Danger” situation, the risks of electricity interruptions, flooding and electric shocks are reduced.

Inmet strengthens safety indications for the population of the regions on alert:
- Turn off electrical appliances and general power.
- In case of floods or similar, place documents and valuables in plastic bags.
- In the event of a confirmed serious dangerous situation: Seek shelter, avoid remaining outdoors.
