I love escape games and have had a chance to try a few of them. A few years ago I discovered what we call immersive experiences, where the goal is no longer just to escape the room by solving various puzzles. We work in several locations with a very specific mission and a little extra, there are actors who participate in the game with you!
This is the type of experience that the creators of Batman Escape have been offering for several months. Located in the center of Boom Boom Villette, northeast of Paris, this escape game, spread over 3,000 m2, pays homage to the world of DC superheroes, with three different rooms. So I head to the crusader’s lair to check out the latest – called The Riddler.
Welcome to the GCPD
The story of The Riddler Escape Game is pretty simple: it’s my first day with the GCPD, the Gotham police force, and it’s going to be a quiet day at work. We quickly get into the mood when two uniformed (and very funny) police officers greet my team and me.

The doors of the first room are opened for us, which is the main police station, where the head of the station receives us. Without going into details so as not to spoil the experience, I’m pretty blown away by the options. As a Batman fan, I notice a lot of little hidden details, watching the comics but also the movies. For an immersive experience, this is a success!
I was also pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere created during this first event. While we have to solve the first riddle of the Riddler, who decided to attack the Gotham police (talk about a quiet day!), the costumed actors do their best to distract us by clowning around. And it’s nice to have a little laugh, especially after a hard day’s work!
Batman to the rescue
The Riddler escape game is built in three stages with three different spaces. And every time, the restoration work is flawless. We’re immersed in Gotham City and even have a chance to meet the Dark Knight during a mission. What I appreciated most about this part was the combination between an immersive experience and a more classic escape game: in the last part of the game, we were in a closed room full of puzzles to solve. A relatively affordable level – and to be found out.
Like The Batcave and The Joker – two other escape games I’ve also tried – The Riddler has an open ending. There are no winners and losers. It is a guarantee of good time with friends or family.

Don’t Miss: If you’re going out and don’t really want to play escape, we invite you to try The Gotham City Race, a car race (downsized) where each player drives one car. From the heroes of the world. And this part is just as immersive because the speaker is there to cheer the game on – or mock the level of the participants, as you choose (yeah, I’m spinning backwards, so what?).
