The series “The 3 Body Problem” has gained so much attention since its premiere on Netflix on March 21 that many fans are already eager to know what happens next. We answer some of your questions.
Will ‘The Three Body Problem’ Get Season 2 On Netflix?
As of now, the streaming platform has not announced its plans for a follow-up installment.
However, the spirits of the creators are optimistic. David Benioff, for example, told Games Radar: “We don’t have a second season, but we have to keep moving forward like we do, because if we do get a second season, you have to start working on pre-production and production to get it out into the world in a reasonable amount of time.”
What could ‘The 3-Body Problem’ season two be?
While there are no official plans yet for the future of the production, fans can get an idea of what might be coming based on the events of Cixin Liu’s books. The sequel to ‘The Three Body Problem’ is titled ‘The Dark Forest’.
At the end of Netflix’s first season, Saul is designated “Wallfacer,” a position that gives him practically unlimited power as long as he finds a way to stop the San-Ti, though he’s reluctant to accept it.
In the second book, we are introduced to Luo Ji, Saul’s counterpart in the series, who also resists his role. In fact, for years he avoids facing the threat, although personal issues lead him to finally take on the responsibility assigned to him.
To solve the problem, the scientist focuses on the Fermi paradox (explained by Ye Wenjie in his younger years) and the dark forest theory (again, the title of the book is based on a real scientific approach and plays a central part of the plot ). The latter suggests that intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations prefer not to come into contact with others to avoid possible extinction.
In the book, Luo Ji uses the case as a method of defense: he threatens to reveal the location of the planet Trisolaris to the rest of the universe, creating a stalemate in the alien attack.
It is likely that the second season of the show will explore how this plan will play out, considering the difficulty of executing it under the constant surveillance of the Trisolarians (remember, they are able to see everything the scientist does).
How many seasons will ‘The 3 Body Problem’ have?
David Benioff told “Collider” that, along with Alexander Woo and DB Weiss, he thinks three or four seasons would be ideal. The decision to have an extra installment of Cixin Liu’s trilogy comes from the fact that they could split the last book in two.
