Do you miss your homeland? Claire Danes is reteaming with the creator for a new Netflix series

It’s time for a reunion between Claire Danes and Howard Gordon, star and creator of Homeland! We hear Netflix has just ordered The Beast In Me mini-series Deadline.

This mystery thriller project will be produced by Gabe Rother, starring Howard Gordon. It will also be produced by Jodie Foster, who seems to be increasingly interested in TV and streaming formats after her successful stint in True Detective.

Thriller with familiar accents

In Beast In Me, after the tragic death of her young son, famous author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) withdraws from public life, unable to write and becoming a shadow of her former self. But he discovers a suspicious subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Niall Sheldon, a formidable real estate tycoon who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance.

Haunted and fascinated by the man, Egg begins a compulsive search for the truth—demon to demon while running with demons—in a cat-and-mouse game that could prove deadly. It’s hard not to find some resonance between the character of Egg and the character of Carrie that the Danes created in Homeland…

A long-awaited project

The origins of The Beast In Me date back 6 or 7 years. At the time, Gabe Rotter – who worked on The X-Files, the original series and the reboot – wrote the first script with a male protagonist. After a lack of interest in this script, he suggested changing the gender of the main character, and he rewrote the project with Aggie as the new lead.

The project remained in limbo until Jodie Foster was offered the role of Agee, directing and producing the series. Interested, he initially agreed to direct and produce the series, but not to star in it.

It was then that Foster suggested the name Claire Danes and sent the script to the actress. The Homeland Emmy winner stepped up and signed on for the role. After a grueling process, The Beast In Me finally landed on Netflix and became a reality when Gordon signed on as showrunner. Since Jodie Foster was no longer directing due to her schedule, she remained an executive producer.

Claire Danes recently starred in the miniseries Anatomy of Divorce. Other recent projects include starring roles in Steven Soderbergh’s Full Circle (available on MyCanal) and The Essex Serpent for Apple TV+. See you in 2025 to discover this new series.
