“Obi-Wan Kenobi” had its final episode, but the Disney + series writer revealed that were it not for the poor performance of “Han Solo”, the story would have become a trilogy in theaters.
In an interview with The directStuart Beattie, writer of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, talked about the construction of the series starring Ewan McGregor and how initially the plans were that it would actually be “a complete trilogy”.
Despite receiving credits for a few episodes of the series, Beattie revealed that she wrote the script for the original film (which never happened) on which the series was based, stating that she never collaborated with the writers of the series. Furthermore, he claimed that the problem for “Obi-Wan Kenobi” – the film – never happened, was the box office failure of “Han Solo”.
“I wrote the movie that they based the series on. So yes. I worked on it for a year, a year and a half. And then when the decision was made not to spin-off again after ‘[Han] Solo ‘came out, I left the project and moved on to other things. work [Harold] he came and took my scripts and I turned it from two hours to six. So I’ve never worked with them, I just get the credit for the episodes because they were all my stuff, ”said Beattie.
“Was ‘[Han] Only ‘that has changed the direction of the system, “he explained.” Personally I like it'[Han] Only ‘, but he didn’t make a lot of money. In a way it’s crazy to think about how [foi dirigido por um] of the best directors working today. But, just because she didn’t reach a certain number, they had to think again. “
The writer further revealed that the original proposal for Obi-Wan’s story he made to Lucasfilm in 2016 was actually for “three stories”, with the first becoming the one we know in “Obi-Wan Kenobi”. “When I presented my Obi-Wan story to Lucasfilm, I said, ‘Actually, there are three stories here. Since there are three different evolutions, the character has to go from Obi-Wan to Ben ‘, “he explained.
Beattie also confirmed that the three stories above would turn into three films if the plans materialized. “Oh sure. Yeah, sure. Yeah, Ewan was on board, everyone. We were like, ‘Yeah, ready to go.’ And we were so excited about that too … It’s a great story to tell, right? He’s such a fit character and Ewan is fantastic. And he’s the perfect age, everything. “
Despite the disappointment, Beattie said he was proud of the story. “I’m glad it was done. I’m glad the series was made. I am proud of my story that [foi] counted. I’m glad my characters survived. And I’m glad I got credit for that. [Mas] I wish they could make my films. “
All episodes of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” are available on Disney +.
The “Han Solo” post prevented “Obi-Wan Kenobi” from being a trilogy of films that first appeared on Digital Look.
