Marlon Brando is a monster of a movie, credited with absolute classics like A Streetcar Named Desire, Viva Zapata!, On the Quays, The Godfather and Apocalypse Now (yes, it’s dizzying). But Marlon BrandoThere are also lesser-known works, such as this excellent Morituri, released in cinemas in 1965 and screened this Monday evening by Arte.

A war movie Morituri Immerse viewers in 1942 Japan with an apolitical German who is forced to infiltrate a ship carrying a precious cargo of rubber to Germany. His mission is to prevent the captain from sinking his ship if it is targeted by the English Navy.

Based on the novel of the same name written in 1958 by the German Werner Jörg Lüdecke. Morituri is a great war and espionage film that was well received by critics but unfortunately fell short with the public. And it’s a shame, because this work by Bernhard Wieck (co-director of The Longest Day) is a success in the genre, with pleasant suspense and staging that is certainly classic, but always in the service of the story.

An intense confrontation between two legends in the War of Nerves mode Marlon Brandon And Yul Brynner is a movie buff’s delight (let’s not forget to mention the excellent Trevor Howard). Add in the musical score by the great Jerry Goldsmith, and you have a piece that is definitely worth spending two hours in front of the Arte tonight.
