San Paolo repudiates Textor’s statements and calls the lawyers

After John Textor stated that São Paulo players had been involved in the manipulation, the board issued a statement of repudiation

On Monday evening (1), São Paulo repudiated the accusations made by John Textor, CEO of Botafogo’s SAF, regarding the alleged manipulation of players in the 5-0 defeat suffered by Palmeiras. The head of the Botafoguense company did not present evidence regarding this accusation. Therefore, Tricolor Paulista stated that it intends to take legal and appropriate measures through its legal department.

The accusations come on the same day in which the leader of Botafoguense assured that he had proof of the advantages of refereeing for Palmeiras, in the last two Brazilian championships. However, as in the next case, he did not introduce them.

“The São Paulo Futebol Clube has become aware of and vehemently repudiates the serious and unfounded accusations of participation of the athletes of the tricolor team in the manipulation of the results formulated by the owner of SAF Botafogo. This statement without any trace of evidence attentive to the suitability of the players of the men’s professional team and the honesty of the institution of São Paulo FC in its 94 years of history. The club has already activated its legal department, which will study and take appropriate measures in the legal field”, reads the note.

Textor’s statements caused a stir in Brazilian football. These protests began at the end of 2023. Also this Monday, through an official note, Palmeiras called the Botafogo leader a ‘caricature’ and called what it considered a justification for the loss of the 2023 Brazilian title ‘bizarre’.
