Guterres reiterated the inviolability of diplomatic offices
The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, “condemned” the attack attributed to Israel against the consular building of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, and reiterated the “principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises ”.
The position is contained in a note released by Guterres’ spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, and also “calls on all interested parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation”.
“Any miscalculation could lead to a wider conflict in an already unstable region, with devastating consequences for civilians,” the statement read. .
