Hundreds of years later, the last humans discovered a way to go back in time for consciousness. Special agents are then tasked with preventing society from collapsing. Known as ‘travellers’, their consciousness is thus sent into the 21st century and transferred into the ‘host’ bodies of mortals in order to minimize any unexpected effects it may have on the timeline of events.
Completing several missions to prevent the impending destruction of humanity, each must slip into the shoes of their host and live out the rest of their lives without suspicion. Armed only with a knowledge of history and an archive of social media profiles, travelers discover that life and relationships in the 21st century are as challenging as their high-stakes missions.
Time travelers – or travelers From the original title – is an international co-production between Netflix and the Canadian channel Showcase. However, after its second season, it was Netflix that eventually became the sole distributor.
Created by Brad Wright, with series direction by Eric McCormack (Will from Will & Grace), Mackenzie Porter (Hell On Wheels), Nesta Cooper (see, #REALITYHIGH), Jared Abrahamson (Fear The Walking Dead), Reilly Dolman (Supernatural) and Patrick Gilmore (You Me Her), simply virtuoso and totally underrated. Packed with new features, it handles the concept of time travel with ambition, ingenuity and originality – and it’s a success. After all, according to AlloCiné internet users, it is among the 10 best sci-fi series to watch on Netflix…
At the heart of the show is an eclectic, cohesive and fascinating group of individuals, accompanied by addictive and intense storylines. And whoever says large-scale disaster and temporary science fiction, says thrills and emotions, suspense and action. Uniquely engrossing, the series – halfway between Code Quantum and The Time Machine – can be devoured in one sitting. And we ask for more.
