Ford postpones production of electric pickups and SUVs in North America

Ford said Thursday it has postponed the launch of electric vehicles in Canada and its next-generation electric pickup truck in the United States, as slowing global demand for electric vehicles forces automakers to revise their production plans.

Ford said separately that it is increasing its hybrid vehicle offering and that by 2030 it plans to have hybrid powertrains across its entire lineup of gasoline vehicles.

The automaker said it will delay the launch of a new electric SUV to be assembled at the company’s Canadian plant from 2025 to 2027 to “allow the consumer electric vehicle market to further develop and allow Ford to take advantage of emerging battery technology.” . “.

Separately, Ford said it will delay deliveries of an electric pickup to be built at a new U.S. plant until 2026. The company said last year that it planned to start production in late 2025 and assemble up to 500,000 trucks per year in the United States. . factory.

Ford plans to begin customer deliveries of the new pickup in 2026 and gradually increase production to ensure quality.

Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler told investors last year that the automaker would delay some of its multibillion-dollar investment plans in new electric vehicles and battery manufacturing capacity.
