The Breakfast Club hasn’t ‘aged well’, says Molly Ringwald

In one of the comedy classics of the 1980s, Molly Ringwald played Claire Standish, one of the highlights of John Hughes’ film

One of the most beloved comedy films of the 1980s, Five Club follows five high school teenagers who commit petty crimes at school and end up in detention. Despite being acclaimed at the time and becoming a classic, Molly Ringwald thinks the production hasn’t “aged well.”

It is worth remembering how the actress played Claire Standish, one of the highlights of the narrative. The cast of the film, directed by John Hughesalso featured Judd Nelson (John Bender), Molly Ringwald (Claire Standish), Ally Sheedy (Allison Reynolds), Emilio Estevez (Andrew Clark), Anthony Michael Hall (Brian Johnson), Mary Christian (Brian’s sister), Paul Gleason (Richard Vernon), between others.

During an interview with The Times, Ringwald talked about some elements and details that have not survived the test of time. “I don’t like seeing myself on screen. I just watched Five Clubreleased in 1985, again because [minha filha] Mathilda wanted to see it with me,” he said.

“There are a lot of things I really love about the film, but there are elements that haven’t aged well – like the character of Judd Nelson, John Benderwhich essentially sexually harasses my character,” he continued.

I’m glad we can look at this and say things are really different now.
