“The Matrix” was released 25 years ago and became an instant sci-fi classic at the movies. So much so that the franchise continues to give of itself. Or at least that can be inferred after the announcement that there will be a new installment.

Warner Bros. announced on March 3 that ‘Matrix 5’ is in development.
It will be directed and written by Drew Goddard, recognized for his work on films such as “The Martian” and “Cloverfield.”
Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the directors and screenwriters of the original trilogy, will not have as prominent a role as in the previous installments. Lana will only be an executive producer.
For now, the plot of the fifth “Matrix” movie remains a secret, the production president of Warner Bros. Motion Pictures’ Jesse Ehrman announced that the story will follow the universe of the previous films, respecting the essence of the original series while offering a unique perspective from Goddard’s vision. He also pointed out that it’s an original Drew story.
As for the cast, there is no official word on who from the original cast will return. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have starred in all previous films such as Neo and Trinity.
Recall that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Priyanka Chopra Jonas participated in the last installment.
