With the success of Dune: Part 2which hit theaters at the end of February and has already surpassed US$630 million at the global box office, Dennis Villeneuve will not take a break and is already working on a new adaptation of Frank Herbert (1920-1986).
The information was confirmed by Legendary Pictures, producer of the films, to Variety. However, the third film is not expected to be released anytime soon, as the company is negotiating with the filmmaker to direct the adaptation of Nuclear War: A Scenariobook of Annie Jacobsena Pulitzer Prize finalist.
Released in March, the work discusses what would happen in the event of a nuclear war, based on interviews with military personnel and experts, who were in charge of building weapons and reacting to a situation like this.
Recently, Villeneuve stated, in an interview with Empirewho would like to take a break before continuing with the new film: “For six years I have been on Arrakis non-stop and I think it will be healthy to take a step back”, he declared. The filmmaker also stated that he wants to have a “strong script” for the next film and doesn’t want to risk making something that isn’t actually ready due to the excitement.
