The film could also have Chris Pratt.
Brothers Joe and Anthony Russo have a new project on Netflix with one of the platform’s great stars: Millie Bobby Brown. The filmmakers and the actress will team up to adapt and turn ‘The Electric State’ into a movie. After nearly half a year of negotiations, Netflix has sealed a deal for the brothers’ next big-budget movie.
The duo, known for the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ blockbusters, will direct this film for the streaming giant, a move that brings them together with the company after making their last current project, the action movie ‘The invisible agent’, which will arrive on the platform in July.
Millie Bobby Brown, the star we’ve known for her role as Once (or Eleven) thanks to ‘Stranger Things’, is on board to star in the project alongside Chris Pratt, who appeared in Russo’s Avengers films. The actor who has been Star Lord is in talks to also join the adaptation of the acclaimed illustrated novel.
Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, longtime Russos screenwriters who have worked on The Invisible Agent and previous Avengers installments, are penning the script. Said project was previously established at Universal, which eventually balked at the price and put it into motion. The new budget is put above 200 million dollarsaccording to the sources that THR has consulted.
The story centers on an orphaned teenager (Brown) who traverses the American West to reach the Pacific Rim, all set in a dystopian future. The country has been devastated by the civil war, but it is not only that. The journey will see the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, along with the discarded garbage of a high-tech consumer society addicted to a virtual reality system. The young woman does not go alone: she is accompanied by a robot, Skip. The project adapts the acclaimed 2018 illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, the writer and artist who also created ‘Tales from the Loop’.
Producers are the Russos themselves through their AGBO brand, along with company co-founder Mike Larocca. Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall are also producing alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Jake Aust, Geoff Haley, Markus and McFeely.
It is still too early to know when we will be able to see this movie on Netflix. However, you will have to be patient. Meanwhile, the new Russo, ‘The invisible agent’, which stars Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling, opens on July 15.
