Android 15: the new system could transform the mobile phone into a laptop

The tests seen by “Android Authority” report an expansion of the functionality of the desktop mode

Users of Android they will soon be able to have a computing experience with their mobile phones. OR Googleowner of the operating system, could launch a tool this year to transform the smartphone into a sort of laptop when connected to a monitor and a mouse.

Called desktop mode, the feature already exists for users of Android beta versions, with the aim of helping developers test tools and applications in a more streamlined way. Now, according to the specialized site Android Authoritydesktop mode is undergoing changes to be made available to a wider audience.

The feature works when the user connects the mobile phone to equipment such as monitor, keyboard and mouse. When you open the mode, your phone displays a different view than usual, with menus at the bottom of the screen and file folders at the top. Additionally, in the right corner, a taskbar displays battery percentage, Internet access, and media usage such as audio and video.

Some versions seen on the site show that site windows opened in desktop mode have new position and action buttons – to resize the size and allow free dragging of the window on the screen.

While it seems like a simple skill for the system, Google needed to work on the system’s interoperability between one mode for mobile phones and another for larger screens. This is because in operating systems intended for computers, such as windows OR MacOS, by Applethese software are specifically designed for dedicated use, an area in which Google does not develop resources to be a direct competitor of the service.

Another update would be to how desktop mode opens applications. Thanks to the ability to split the screen, introduced with Android 7, the tool can be expanded to offer an expanded view on the screen similar to Windows. A Motorola launched, in 2021, a similar tool called “Ready For”.

All these changes could appear in Android 15, a new operating system that is expected to be announced by Google during its developer event, Google I/Owhich takes place in May.

However, the company has not confirmed whether it will make the tool available to the general public or whether the changes could arrive in Android 15.
