The remake of Alex Proyas’ 1994 film The Crow hits theaters on June 5. In the meantime, for those who are more impatient, we suggest that you collect all the information surrounding this work of Rupert Sanders.
What does Crow say?
The Crow tells the story of a new version of the 1994 feature film of the same name based on the comics by James O’Barry. We follow Eric Draven and his fiancée. The latter are attacked and killed by the gang after the couple’s car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by the spade and seeks revenge on those who took his life and that of his loved one.
After many years of planning, the feature film passed through several hands, notably Stephen Norrington, F. In the hands of Javier Gutierrez and Corinne Hardy, before Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) was hired. According to the casting, Jason Momoa and Luke Evans were considered for the main role.
Who is The Crow with?
In place of the late Brandon Lee, who died on the set of The Crow in 1994, Rupert Sanders has targeted Bill Skarsgård. The latter lands in a costume by Eric Draven, sporting a new gothic look.
To create the character, who features a mullet and numerous tattoos, the director explained to Vanity Fair that he was inspired more by his personal story than by the graphic novel and the original film.
“I think the beauty of Bill is that he’s disturbingly beautiful, and when he’s transformed by losing her, he becomes something that he can’t even control. It’s a famous phrase: He who fights monsters must be careful not to become one. .”.

“This look was me in the ’90s when we were hanging out in London, mixed with modern influences like singers Post Malone and Lil Peep. I hope people who are 19 today look at it and say: This guy is us. This image. Illustrated at the beginning of his transformation into the Crow. This is the moment when we realize that something bad is happening.”Rupert Sanders explains.
Bill Skarsgård will be surrounded by FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Birn, Jordan Bolger, Isabela Wei and Frenchy Sami Bouajila.
The Crow franchise
James O’Barry’s works have already seen several film adaptations. Alex Proyas’ The Crow (1994) would have sequels: City of Angels with Vincent Perez (1997), Salvation (2000) by Eric Mabius and Kirsten Dunst, and The Crow Wicked Prayer with Edward Furlong and David Boreanaz. An unforgettable late 1990s television series directed by Mark Dacascos.
Alex Proyas approves of this remake?
The 60-year-old filmmaker, who directed 1994’s The Crow, isn’t a big fan of the remake project. However, the director’s reservations come not from a sense of ownership, he said, but from a question of loyalty and respect for Brandon Lee, who died of a gun malfunction during filming.
“I’m really not happy when I see a negative about the work of a fellow filmmaker”Alex Proyas wrote on Facebook (via Deadline). “And I’m sure the cast and crew really had good intentions, as do all of us in any movie.”

“So it pains me to say more than that, but I think the fan response says it all. Crow is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died shooting it, and the movie ended up being a testament to his lost brilliance and his tragic loss. That’s his legacy. It should stay that way.” .
In his post, Alex Proyas points to a Comic Resource article that talks about the impressive number of negative reactions online.
Rupert Sanders responds
In an interview with Vanity Fair, the director of the remake, Rupert Sanders, said that he considered his version of The Crow to be an homage to Brandon Lee.
“Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy and that’s definitely something we always had in mind when making the film. Brandon was the original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow.”
“And I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back. His spirit is very much alive in this film. There’s a real vulnerability and a real beauty in his version of The Raven, and I think Bill Skarsgård feels that way. He’s the heir.”
The new version of Crow is scheduled to hit our theaters on June 5.
