Adopted by different families, the brothers meet by chance in class

Summary

Two brothers, João Vitor and Gabriel dos Santos da Silva, met again by chance 10 years after being adopted by different families in Indaiatuba, SP.

Two brothers aged 15 and 17 met again by chance, after 10 years, in a classroom. João Vitor and Gabriel dos Santos da Silva, from Indaiatuba, São Paulo, were adopted by different families and ended up losing contact. Their story was told by EPTV, an affiliate of TV Globo.

Older, Gabriel was five years old when he arrived at the orphanage and João Vitor was three. He remembers that the youngest one needed more care because he was younger and, therefore, was kept in a separate area. The two ended up being adopted quickly, but went their separate ways.

Gabriel was adopted by a former godmother. He says that at the time he didn’t really understand what had happened and for a long time he believed that his grandmother or his parents would have taken him anyway.

But for João Vitor it was different. Adopted by an unknown family in July 2014, he recalls that he feared being abandoned again and that he had not opened up to his new parents. “I was a rebellious boy, I didn’t accept the rules. Until I started to accept everything, and I started to get attached”, he tells TV.

Attempt and meeting

When he turned 10, Gabriel asked to go to the orphanage where he lived to try to reunite with his brothers – in addition to João Vitor, he is the brother of Daniel and Maisa. The attempt, however, ended in failure and the boy did not persist in the search.

Years later, the two met again during a class of Projeto Sonhar, a program run by Sesi in collaboration with private companies. Gabriel, who started working as an electronics maintenance electrician because of the project, went to a lecture to talk about his experience in the profession. And that among the students was João Vitor.

“When he walked into the room, everyone started talking. Everyone really, literally. Then they started looking at me and him. And people started saying under their breath that we were very, very similar,” the youngest recalls.

It was the youngest who had doubts and went to ask the teacher for information about the young man. They confirmed their relationship and arranged to meet.

“I started to raise the topic so that we could remember our history a little and know the future,” said João, who are now neighbors and live like brothers.
