So don’t always stick to your first impression. When Sam Berger (Nina Meurice) and Marie Kinski (Anna Girardot) go head-to-head this Monday, the former political communicator turned comedian brings her game up more than ever in the latest episodes of La Fièvre.
The role in which Anna Girardo makes an impression… and yet, the actress almost did not participate in the casting of the political series!
“My agent asked me to try out”
On the question: His reluctance, initially, to play such a character. “I remember when I read the script for the first episode, I said to myself, ‘No… no, really, no, I can’t say that.'”Anna Girardo shared at the press conference held in February of last year.
He continues: “My agent said, ‘But it’s not working or what?’ This role is extraordinary! You’ve been asking me for a role like this for years.” I replied, “Yeah, but hey, still…” .
Then my agent asked me to audition, which I did. But I got there and told myself I was going to screw up my casting. He would leave me alone.”.
A decisive meeting with the director of the series
Her meeting with Ziad Dweir, the director of La Fever, who was at the casting that day, finally changed her mind. “He brought me back to my first love of acting. He reminded me of my theater teacher in New York. At that moment I said to myself, ‘Oh my God, but who is this person?’ I absolutely want to work with him!”– says the actor.
Was it necessary to succeed after his complete self-sabotage? “I remember panicking and trying to catch up. But when I came out of practice I felt like I hadn’t given 100% of what I could have done.Anna Girardo recalls.
So I immediately called my agent and said, “Please call them, tell Ziad that I will be back tomorrow and that I will do even better in these tests. Please help me get a second chance!’ “.
The request was granted, with the result known to us. “The next morning I came back and broke it because I said to myself: ‘Well, a role like this, with all that it represents, if it’s with a director like Ziad, obviously ‘I need it.’
“It was very nice to play such a role”
Today Anna Girardo does not regret at all that she used this opportunity, on the contrary. “It was very nice to play such a role, I must say that I was always approached for the roles of quite kind, gentle, helpful characters.
At some point I realized that I was often reduced to the role of “wife”. From there I wanted to move on to stronger character roles. And I enjoyed it more and more.”– explains the actor.
Thus, the interpretation of Marie Kinski’s character seems to be in the continuum of things. “With Marie Kinski, I completely let go of myself. When I was playing, I physically felt like I was letting myself go, that I was actually putting on a mask.”Ana Girardo reports.
He adds: “I realized that before, when I was playing, I put a little bit into it, and so I apologized a little bit for what I was doing. Not here. And I felt very free.”.
