Rated 4.5 out of 5 on AlloCiné Discover this still very little-known western series called 1883, which is part of the Yellowstone universe, but which can be judged as such without having seen an episode of the parent series. But of course, it’s even better if you already know the essential Dutton family.
Created and written entirely by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Tulsa King), 1883 serves as a prequel to Yellowstone. It follows the ancestors of Kevin Costner’s character, their departure from Tennessee and their journey west to the lands that would become Montana’s Yellowstone Ranch. The patriarch of the family, James Dutton, is played by Tim McGraw.
Tim McGraw (James Dutton)
Unfortunately, traveling through the wild west is not easy, quite the opposite! Danger threatens every corner of the street, and the convoy of pioneers to which they belong suffers many setbacks. Montana is at the end of a long road strewn with pitfalls and drama.

Isabel May (Elsa Dutton)
As a common theme, we hear the voice of Elsa Dutton (Isabelle May) who comments with her feelings on the various events of the trip and acts as the viewer’s guide on this expedition from which some will never return.

There’s also Sam Elliott as the convoy guide (that’s him, over there in the foreground)
If you’ve seen Yellowstone, you’ll rediscover the brutal spirit of the Duttons in 1883 with the adventures of Kevin Costner’s character’s grandfather, James Dutton, who turns out to be the brother of Jacob Dutton, played by Harrison Ford. 1923 Another Yellowstone spin-off.
Let’s say 1883 is the “dark relative” of 1883. Complete in 10 episodes, a brutal miniseries that will keep you entertained and don’t forget to explore the psychology of the inhabitants of this small world created by the pioneer convoy. We recommend with your eyes closed, can you open them?
