Detective comedies are trendier than ever! After HPI and more recently Panda, TF1 continues and signs Miss Holmes.
Inspired by the famous world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the series follows the adventures of Charlie, the grandson of Sherlock Holmes. Although numerous adaptations of the famous English detective have seen the light of day on our screens, few of them have finally featured a female character. By making this rather bold bet, the screenwriters of Mademoiselle Holmes offer a modern continuation of the adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Although the structure of the series remains classic with one investigation per episode, the common thread in the history of Charlie’s family still keeps our interest throughout the season. Then we enjoy watching the episodes thanks to the well-crafted investigations and intense comic dynamics that characterize the duo created by Charlie and Vattel.
But one of Mademoiselle Holmes’ greatest strengths undoubtedly lies in the psychological exploration of her characters, and especially her protagonist. A whimsical, atypical, sharp and borderline character, Charlie is a brilliant investigator and a complex woman who hides something dark. Her evolution from shy cop to confident woman brings welcome sensitivity and depth.
Excited about her role, Lola Dewer is strong in the comic scenes, even if it sometimes borders on the ridiculous, which she fully understands. It also claims a touch in more dramatic scenes. Duality, which allows you to quickly approach the character.
Of course, we can’t talk about Miss Holmes without mentioning her HPI. Indeed, Miss Holmes and HPI share the same DNA with heroines who have much in common. Both strong-headed, these two whimsical characters don’t give up and have a sharp intelligence that allows them to solve investigations. Despite this, Miss Holmes manages to find her own identity thanks to the world of Sherlock Holmes into which she is drawn.
In short, Miss Holmes is a light and entertaining detective comedy. With interesting explorations, well-developed characters and a cast that is both exciting and compelling, the series manages to captivate us. Even if its initial structure is simple, the series gets more complex as the episodes go by. A refreshing series that should therefore appeal to fans of the genre.
