Four Brazilian couples advance to the knockout stage in Guadalajara

As the group stage of the Guadalajara Beach Volleyball Challenge opened, Brazilians Ágatha/Rebecca, André/George, Evandro/Arthur Lanci and Pedro Solberg/Guto qualified for the knockout stage of the competition. They will return to the tournament this Saturday (13th), looking to move forward in the tournament.

The top finishers in the men’s category were Evandro and Arthur, who finished top of group A. They opened their season by beating Smedins and Tocs, Latvians, 2-0 (21/13 and 21/13). Then came the triumph over the Spanish Herrera/Gavira due to the abandonment of the opposing pair. Then the Brazilians await the definition of their opponent in the round of 16.

Likewise, Pedro Solberg and Guto will also debut in the round of 16 of the Challenge. Early on they finished third in group F, behind the Americans Bourne/Schalk and Evans/Budinger. The Brazilian team’s only victory came against the Mexicans Sarabia and Cruz, with a score of 2-0 (21/13 and 21/16). Pedro and Guto will face the Cubans Alayo/Díaz, silver medalists at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023. Finally, André/George will have to face the repechage of the tournament, where they will face the Lithuanians Stankevicius and Knasas.

Among the women, Ágatha and Rebecca finished third in group F and also advanced to the round of 16 in Guadalajara. They started with a defeat against Japan’s Akiko/Ishii, who won the match 2-1 (25/23, 13/21 and 15/11). Subsequently, the Brazilians recovered in the tournament by winning over the Mexicans Gutierrez and Flores with a score of 2-0 (21/14 and 21/8). Now they will face the French Placette and Richard, in a match valid for the round of 16.
