A Perfect World is currently airing on ARTE and you’re probably wondering what happened to the young guy who plays opposite (sorry) Laura Dern, Clint Eastwood and Kevin Costner.
Remember if you made a movie on the road, A Perfect World tells the story of the escape of two prison escapees, Butch (Costner) and Terry. To protect their escape, they kidnap Philip, a young boy. After a “disagreement” with Terry, Butch fires him and Phillip quickly becomes his only traveling companion. Hot on their trail are Texas ranger Red Garnett (Eastwood) and criminal Sally (Dern).
A perfect world that has one of our 15 most moving scenes in cinema (but beware, spoilers!)
What did he do after “Perfect World”?
After the study, TJ Lowther disappeared from the screens as if from the radar. During his childhood acting years, his parents always said they would let him act as long as he liked. At that time, the little boy said that he wanted to become a pilot. Contacting us through Instagram, he didn’t accept our connection request.
After A Perfect World, the young man made two TV movies: the western The Hand of the Angel, in which he played a young version of the character played by Tom Berenger, and the Christmas movie One Christmas, with Katharine Hepburn and Henry Winkler.

Hank McKee (TJ Lowther on Grey’s Anatomy)
We found him in 1995 in From Love to Madness with Drew Barrymore and Chris O’Donnell, then he starred in Mr. Atlas, the story of a boy who falls into a pit and finds himself face to face with the Greek god Atlas! At the age of 18, he appeared in his last feature film, the television film Jace’s Triumph, and four years later he played his last role on screen: the role of an intern on Grey’s Anatomy (S06E02, broadcast in 2004).
“Perfect World”, difficult shooting
Prior to A Perfect World, Lowther first appeared on screen in Neon City, a sort of poor man’s Mad Max released on video in 1991, followed by My Mother’s Fight, in which he played the youngest of Kathy Bates’ six children alongside Edward. Furlong in 1993. With these two experiences, he was cast in Clint Eastwood’s new project A Perfect World.

On time, the production is looking for 10-11-year-olds, who are 8 years old, and Lothar is only six years old. He was eventually cast and spent 90% of his time on set in the car his character was trapped in, for hours on end, 6 days a week. He did not complain and even considered himself happy that the team trusted his lines and wanted him to work every day, despite his young age.
Clint Eastwood said of him in 1994 that he was “Very intelligent and a good guy. Sometimes, paradoxically, he was perfect in one case.”
