Netflix is accused of using AI-generated imagery in its true crime documentary What Jennifer did, futurism. Suspicions were raised due to the nature of some images that appeared in the production, which show typical signs of artificial intelligence trickery, including mutilated hands, strange artifacts and other elements. If the accusation is confirmed, it would raise serious questions about the use of such images in documentaries, especially since the person depicted is currently in prison, awaiting a retrial.
In one image from the documentary, the left hand of the film’s character, Jennifer Pan, is notably mutilated, while another image shows a strange hole on her cheek.
Netflix has not yet admitted to having used artificial intelligence, but the images show clear signs of manipulation, and the streaming giant has never clarified that it used artificial intelligence in the production of the work.

Regulatory bodies in the United States, Europe, and some other countries have already enacted laws on the use of AI, but so far there appear to be no specific laws regulating the use of AI images or videos for documentaries or other related content.
