Iconic actor Michael Douglas is stepping into the role of America’s founding father Benjamin Franklin in the upcoming Apple TV+ miniseries Franklin.
The series, which premiered worldwide on April 12, 2024, promises to take viewers on a fascinating journey through the life and achievements of this influential politician.
What is the ‘Franklin’ miniseries about?
Based on Stacy Schiff’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America, Franklin explores the story of the most daring gamble of Benjamin Franklin’s career.
In December 1776, Franklin, famous for his electrical experiments, faced a critical test. The fate of American independence hangs in the balance and a secret mission to France begins.
Despite having no diplomatic training and being 70 years old, Franklin manages to convince an absolute monarchy to support the democratic experiment of the United States. His reputation, charisma and intelligence allow him to outwit British spies, French informers and hostile colleagues. The result: the Franco-American alliance of 1778 and the peace treaty with England in 1783. This eight-year mission to France is considered one of Franklin’s most vital services to his country, without which the United States would not have won the Revolution.
