Lionsgate Television will launch the project inspired by Park Chan Wook’s production, released in 2003
Considered one of the most talented directors in South Korean cinema, as well as one of the most awarded, Park Chan Wook He left a legacy in his country with classic productions, which have mystery, action and suspense as hallmarks of his style that captivated audiences.
One of his most famous works is Old boya feature film released in 2003, which in addition to winning numerous international awards, such as Grand Jury Prize it was also nominated at the Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or and it marked an entire generation. Now, more than two decades later, the film will be remade as an English-language television series.
According to Deadline, the director is working on the adaptation as a producer together with his partner Syd Lim and in collaboration with Lionsgate Television, the studio responsible for launching the project. So far there is still no information on the possible cast or a premiere date for the series.
“This series adaptation of Oldboy will feature the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes and visceral style that made the film a classic,” he said Scott Herbst, executive vice president and head of script development at Lionsgate. He also celebrated his partnership with Chan Wook, calling the director “one of the most visionary storytellers of our generation”.
