Just as the 80s experienced a real nostalgic revival in recent years through series like Stranger Things or films like Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, the 90s also left its mark on an entire generation and recently spawned numerous spin-offs and reboots. Sometimes mixed success.
We can, for example, mention the releases of Maman, I Missed the Plane three years ago! (Here It Begins Again) by Dan Mazer, on Disney+ (in which we discover what has become of Kevin McCallister), and Space Jam – New Era by Malcolm D. Lee, in which basketball player LeBron James replaced Michael Jordan in the lead role.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the sequel to Joe Johnston’s 1995 film, received warmer reviews that even led to a third Next Level film being produced. And the fourth opus could see the light of day in a few years.
But it’s the original feature film that we’re going to be playing today with eight questions on the film that will air tonight on TMC. Before that, some shooting secrets.
Did you know?
What does Jumanji mean?
To name his creation, author Chris Van Allsburg wanted to find a name that was both foreign and exciting. The word Jumanji, which means “many effects” in Zulu, seemed perfect to him. It inspires curiosity and wonder. In addition, the game board consists of 110 squares and therefore as many opportunities for the player to face a threat that he will have to overcome.
Robin Williams was not the first choice
While Robin Williams is perfect for the role of Alan Parrish, the actor was not the production’s first choice. Tom Hanks was approached first, but the latter had just filmed Forrest Gump and turned it down. Then came other names: Dan Aykroyd, Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Michael Keaton, Bill Murray and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.
the price to be paid
The game used in the film was sold on Ebay for $60,800 in 2014.
