Ustica, in Sicily, granted the honor to the dictator in 1924
The Sicilian island of Ustica, Italy, has announced the withdrawal of honorary citizenship from dictator Benito Mussolini (1883-1945).
The honor was awarded to Mussolini in 1924, who received it together with Roberto Farinacci, Pietro Lanza di Scalea, Alfredo Cucco and Cesare Mori, other high-ranking fascist officials.
Mussolini and his trusted men were not the only ones affected by the order of the Ustica authorities, who also decided to strip other deceased famous people of their titles.
The island has also excluded entertainment legend Mike Bongiorno, French adventurer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, American astronaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter and producer Walt Disney from its list of honorary citizens. .
