US House approves $61 billion in aid to Ukraine

The project approved with the support of Republicans and Democrats is the result of months of negotiations and pressure from US allies. The package now goes to the Senate for approval, which is expected to take place on Tuesday and is taken for granted, given that the Democrats hold the majority in the House. President Joe Biden has already declared that he will sign the bill as soon as it is approved by the Senate.

Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky welcomed the news and said the aid “will save thousands and thousands of lives.”

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg also welcomed the news.
