The Italian Region opens the polls to elect governor and regional council

Thousands of voters in Basilicata, Italy, will go to the polls this Sunday (21st) and next Monday (22nd) to elect the governor and 20 regional councilors, 13 for the province of Potenza and seven for Matera.

Today voters will be able to show up at the electoral colleges from 7am to 11pm (Rome time), while tomorrow the polls will open at the same time, but will close at 3pm.

There are three candidates for the position of governor: the outgoing Vito Bardi (centre-right, supported by seven parties), Piero Marrese (centre-left, with five) and Eustachio Follia (Volt).

Basilicata is the third Italian region to open the polls in 2024, after the victories of Alessandra Todde in Sardinia and Marco Marsilio in Abruzzo. But it won’t be the last, because Piedmont and Umbria will also experience the same process during the year.

In total, almost 568 thousand people have the right to vote in Basilicata, a number that goes beyond that of Lucanians registered in the latest census of the National Institute of Statistics (Istat). .
