The Manchester United legend blasts the team after qualifying for the FA Cup

The Red Devils opened 3-0, but conceded a draw and needed penalties to overcome the second division team

Former Manchester United player and idol Roy Keane blasted the Red Devils’ performance against Coventry City in the FA Cup. In his review, the Irishman referred to the divisions in which the English championship teams compete.

– Coventry City looked like a first division team, and Manchester United looked like a second division team – he said.

Although Manchester United qualified for the FA Cup final, the former midfielder’s comment refers to the team’s performance and not the result itself. This is because the team led by Erik ten Hag took a 3-0 lead on the scoreboard, but ended up equalizing in the second half.

In extra time, the Red Devils also conceded a shot off the post and a last-minute goal that was disallowed for offside. Given this scenario, the penalty shootout turned out to be “economical” for the English giant.

It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first controversy Roy Keane has been embroiled in thanks to his acidic comments. During the 2022 World Cup, the former player drew the ire of Brazilians for complaining about dances performed by Brazilian players during goal celebrations.

More recently, the Irishman compared Haaland, who is going through a bad phase at Manchester City, to a player from the fourth division. The speech sparked so many reactions that it provoked a response from Pep Guardiola, who came to his athlete’s defense.
