Ponte Preta beat Coritiba this Sunday (21st), with a score of 1-0, in a match valid for the first round of the Serie B of the Brazilian Championship. Pontepretano’s goal was scored by defender Joílson, making his debut for Macaca.
FIRST TIME
Ponte Preta started well in attack, with the arrival of Dudu Vieira, but the Coritiba goalkeeper managed to intervene. Macaca continued to look for space in the Coxa area, when they opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a goal from Joilson.
After the goal, Coritiba tries to react, but Pontepretano’s team is more effective. The visitors’ first attempt came shortly after 30 minutes, with Figueiredo finishing, but the ball crossed the backline.
SECOND TIME
Following the first half plan with a closed defense, Ponte Preta tried to prevent Coritiba’s action at the beginning of the second half.
The danger comes from a set piece, in the 5th minute: after a free kick from Frizzo, Leandro Damião takes advantage of Maurício Antônio’s free kick and finishes for the equalizer, saved by Emerson Santos. The pressure continues and, at the eighth mark, Jamerson shoots towards Pedro Rocha’s goal, demanding a save from the Macaca goalkeeper.
Going from heaven to hell, Coritiba equalized with Joilson’s own goal in the 13th minute. Figueiredo shoots across the ball and, in a cutting attempt, the Macaca defender scores to equalize Majestoso. Coxa continued with the pressure.
Macaca sent a ball to the post in the 22nd minute, after Gabriel Novaes looked for a shot and Pedro Morisco deflected the ball, endangering the visitors’ goal. Coritiba managed to turn the situation around in the 37th minute, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
The comeback still becomes possible in the final, but the defenses of Pedro Rocha and Emerson Santos seem to prevent Macaca’s negative result.
SEQUENCE
Ponte Preta will face Goiás next Sunday (28th), away from home. Coritiba, meanwhile, faces Brusque in front of their fans.
