Rebel Wilson will star in an American K-Pop movie

Having been successful on music charts around the world, K-Pop has also made its way to Hollywood. Actress Rebel Wilson (“Back to the Prom”) and actor Charles Melton (“Riverdale”) will star in a comedy about a lost K-Pop band in rural Texas.

Titled “K-Pop: Lost In America,” the film will follow a South Korean band that has its first big show scheduled in the United States, at New York’s Madison Square Garden, but ends up in Waco, Texas by mistake. .

Without a phone, money or transportation, the group will have to overcome internal differences to reach New York. In the midst of this journey, they also learn to love Texas and vice versa.

The project was set up independently by the production company CJ Entertainment, but it was enough to come to light that several stakeholders have already expressed themselves to make the distribution – from film studios to streaming platforms.

The screenplay is by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer (who wrote the indie comedy “The Last of the Great Romantics”), and is directed by South Korean JK Youn, who will make his English debut.

The director’s latest film was “Ode to My Father”, released eight years ago, when it won 23 South Korean film industry and film criticism awards.

There is no premiere date yet.
