The Fallout series, which made its debut this April in the Amazon Prime Video catalog, promises to offer viewers an experience that echoes the most surprising elements of the games in the franchise, while offering an accessible narrative for new fans of this post-apocalyptic universe.
Promotional trailers have already indicated that the series will be full of references to the games, however, director Todd Howard has ensured that even those new to the games won’t have to worry about missing out. Howard, known for his contributions to the Fallout 3 and 4 games, ensured that the production will be an excellent starting point for anyone wanting to explore this ravaged world.
Fallout: Similarities between the game and the series
The plot is set in the year 2296, approximately two decades after the nuclear catastrophe that devastated the United States and much of the world. In this dark environment, inhabited by mutants, cannibals and suspicious survivors, we follow the journey of Lucy, played by Ella Purnell, in a desperate search for her kidnapped father.
One aspect that makes the series even more accessible is the fact that it introduces an entirely new cast of characters. While iconic elements from the games are present, such as Vault Tec and the Brotherhood of Steel, no prior knowledge of these characters is necessary.
In addition to Lucy, the series highlights The Ghoul, played by Walton Gogins, a human transformed by radiation, and Maximus, played by Aaron Motten, a recruit of the Brotherhood of Steel.

The adaptation not only introduces new characters, but also advances the series’ timeline, placing it in a later period than previous games. This decision gives viewers a broader and more detailed look at the Fallout universe.

One of the series’ promises is its humor, which the producers say will be similar to that of “The Boys.” This sarcastic and acidic tone promises to add a layer of entertainment to the narrative, while the events presented in the series are considered canon and will impact the future of the franchise.
However, Todd Howard assured that the series will not reveal any crucial events that ruin the gaming experience, and no fundamental concepts for the future of “Fallout 5” will be revealed. With this, both old fans and new viewers can expect an exciting and reference-filled journey, without compromising the continuity or future development of the franchise.
