Amazon Prime Video confirmed Thursday (1/30) that it will release “Filho da Mãe”, a documentary about actor and comedian Paulo Gustavo. The announcement was accompanied by a photo from the film, in which Paulo Gustavo appears with his mother, Déa Lúcia.
According to an official statement from the platform, “Filho da Mãe” will feature unedited images by Paulo Gustavo, behind-the-scenes recordings and testimonies from friends and family. Previously, the stakes of Déa Lúcia, widower Thales Bretas and actresses Mônica Martelli and Ingrid Guimarães were leaked.
Filming began before the artist’s death, so Amazon called the documentary “Paulo Gustavo’s last work”. The launch is intended to make the audience laugh, but also to move.
Paulo Gustavo died on May 4, 2021, after about two months in hospital from complications caused by covid-19. One of Brazil’s most successful comedians, he created the series “220 Volts” and the highest-grossing film in the country, “Minha Mãe É uma Peça 3”. His character in this franchise, Dona Hermínia, was inspired by his mother.
