The city of Ipanema, Minas Gerais, announces the 14th edition of the world’s largest cheese, dulce de leche and burnt cheese festival, scheduled from May 29 to June 1, 2024. The event is known for presenting the largest standard cheese minas in the world, as well as dulce de leche and the traditional giant burnt.

The event, started in 2010 to promote local trade, tourism and agricultural industry, has become an annual tradition celebrating the region’s rich dairy culture. It brings together local rural and dairy producers, also counting on the support of state bodies. This combination of forces strengthens the commitment of the State of Minas Gerais to tourism in the municipalities of Minas Gerais and contributes to local economic development.

What to expect in 2024

The program will include national musical attractions, food competitions, craft stalls and home-made food during the four-day event. Highlights include burnt food served in a giant teapot, which attracts large numbers of visitors.

World records

The Festival holds world records, such as the world’s largest standard Minas cheese and dulce de leche. In 2023, cheese reached 2,727 kg and dulce de leche 1,070 kg. The expectation is that these numbers will be exceeded in the 2024 edition.

Media attention

The event captured the attention of major television broadcasters and well-known media names, reaffirming the Cheese Festival as an event of multi-sectoral significance. The presence of celebrities and political figures also contributes to increasing the party’s popularity. Last year, in addition to the traditional media present, the Cheese Festival was the subject of a documentary by EPTV, TV affiliate Globo, Entre Serras and Queijos, as well as the official state press channels, given the presence of Governor Romeu Zema and other relevant political authorities.

And there’s new news:

In addition to traditional delicacies, this year Ipanema is preparing to break another record: the largest cheese bread in the world.
