Playing a superhero almost ruined these actors’ careers: their films were flops

The world of superheroes in cinema has experienced an unprecedented boom in recent years, becoming one of the most popular and lucrative franchises in the industry, although this may not have the same impact on the actors who play them.

In some cases, the pressure and expectations that come with playing a superhero have led some actors to receive negative reviews and even see their careers decline.

Actors who almost ruined their careers playing superheroes

Halle Berry in ‘Catwoman’ (2004)

Her performance as Catwoman was considered one of the worst in film history, earning her a Razzie Award for Worst Actress.

The actress came to receive said award holding the Oscar in her hand, dealing with the situation with humor.

Val Kilmer in “Batman Forever” (1995)

Kilmer, who played Batman, expressed his displeasure with the production and refused to play the character again.

This led to him losing the opportunity to participate in future films of the franchise.

Jessica Alba in “Fantastic Four 1 and 2” (2005 and 2007)

The actress received mixed reviews for her role as Sue Storm in ‘Fantastic Four’, which led her to distance herself from superhero movies.

Years later, Alba retired from acting to devote herself to her company The Honest Company, a brand specializing in the production and sale of sustainable home and personal care products.

Ryan Reynolds in ‘Green Lantern’ (2011)

Before becoming the Deadpool we all know, whose third film will hit theaters this summer, Reynolds had a negative experience with another superhero.

In 2011 he played Green Lantern, the film of which was a complete failure for both fans and critics. Reynolds took this situation with humor and used it during the press tour for the “Deadpool” movies.

George Clooney in “Batman and Robin” (1997)

While it worked for other actors like Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson to play Batman, others weren’t so lucky.

After the failure of “Batman and Robin”, Clooney stated that he would never play a superhero again after the criticism he received.

Chris O’Donnell and Alicia Silverstone also received bad reviews for their participation in this film.

Ben Affleck in “Daredevil” (2003)

Although the Batman films starring Affleck performed well commercially, the actor received mixed reviews for his portrayal of Matt Murdock.
