The World Bodyboarding Circuit took place on Jacaraípe beach
Last Saturday (27), Brazil celebrated two victories at the ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro, the women’s stage of the World Bodyboarding Circuit, held on Jacaraípe beach, in Serra, Espírito Santo.
Luna Hardman from Espírito Santo became champion in the Pro Junior category, while Mariana Nogueira from Rio won her third title in the Master category.
In the Professional category, second title went to Japan’s Sari Ohhara, with Luna securing second place.
Luna Hardman, who at 18 was ranked second in the world, reaffirmed her importance by reaching two finals.
In the Pro Junior she faced the Portuguese Luana Dourado and secured the title. She then competed in the Professional final against the leader of the ranking, Japanese Sari Ohhara, who was looking for her second title.
“Very happy with this title in the Pro Junior. I was looking for this result and, now, I managed to win at home. Thanking all the support of the fans”, celebrated Luna, daughter of Neymara Carvalho, five-time world champion and organizer of the event.
At 52 years old, Mariana Nogueira won her third title in the Masters category. Competing in the final against Portuguese Catarina Sousa, Mariana outlasted her opponents and took home the title.
“I’m very excited. Every woman, athlete, who gets to the Masters and can continue to live the life of this athlete has a lot to celebrate,” Mariana said.
The event, in its third edition, recorded a record number of 115 registrations, with the participation of 75 athletes from seven countries. The total prize money was 37 thousand dollars (190 thousand reais).
Open category and people with disabilities
In the Open category, the Portuguese Alice Teotonio won, followed by the Brazilian Victoria Moraes. In the People with disabilities category, Renata Balzone and Cristiana Dantas stand out, among others.
A special category that highlighted female athletes who combine sport and motherhood, promoting unity and empowerment.
The 2024 ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro had the primary patronage of ArcelorMittal, the Government of the State of Espírito Santo, through the Capixaba Sports Incentives Law, and the Serra Municipal Council, with the support of Coroa. It was created by the Neymara Carvalho Institute and the IBC.
