Elderly man hit by mother and son in MT died in his daughter’s arms: “I felt helpless”

Cattle farmer Inês Gemilaki and her son, Dr Bruno Gemilaki Dal Poz, are suspected of murdering two elderly people during a break-in on a property

“I felt so helpless. I called out, ‘father, father, father, father, father, father,'” she told the Fantastic Raquel Soares, daughter of Pilson Pereira da Silva, 81 years old, one of the elderly people killed by a mother and son who broke into a house and fired several firearms in Peixoto de Azevedo, Mato Grosso.

The images captured by security cameras and broadcast by the television program Globo reveal the chronology of the crime committed by the cattle farmer Inês Gemilaki, her son, the doctor Bruno Gemilaki Dal Poz and other family members involved. All suspects were arrested by the Civil Police.

Initially the scenario involved a holiday weekend at the home of the Lavall family, with a barbecue organized to celebrate the birthday of the miner Erneci Lavall. However, around 3.14pm, a white van parks in front of the residence and three people get out: Inês, Bruno and her brother-in-law, Éder Gonçalves.

Bruno, armed with a 12 gauge rifle, is followed closely by Éder, who occupies a strategic position in the rear.

Meanwhile, rural producer Erneci Afonso Lavall, known as “Polaco,” and his wife, Raquel Soares, were at home. While the guests gathered around a table, the rural producer rested on a sofa.

Inês then shoots at the window and enters the property through the shrapnel. Inside the room, she crouches down and begins a sequence of shots. “It was very fast, very fast, without the possibility of defending anyone, and we had nowhere to run, the women entered the house and others lay down,” remembers José Roberto Domingos, who survived the shooting.

The initial target of the shots was Rui Luiz Bogo, 69, an acquaintance of Inês. Still smiling, he stands in front of the security camera at the time of the attack.

At the time, ten people were in the residence, while a child was sleeping in one of the bedrooms. Sitting next to her father, Rui’s daughter, Lourdete Bogo, witnessed the scene. “My father never did anything bad to anyone. What he did was cowardly,” she said.

Father José Roberto, also present in the house, tried to escape the shots and took shelter behind the sofa, but was not spared by the shots. Inês continues shooting, this time aiming at “Polaco”, but her gun misfires at least twice.

The action lasts about two minutes. Before leaving the place, Inês tries to reach a security camera, without success. She then asks her son Bruno to do the same, but he also fails to damage the equipment.

Prisons

Mother and son handed themselves over to the Civil Police a few days after the crime. The Civil Police served arrest warrants against both men on a rural family property, located 180 kilometers from the municipality of Mato Grosso where the home invasion occurred.

According to the Civil Police, the place where the mother and son were arrested is difficult to access and has more than 85 kilometers of dirt roads. The Mato Grosso court issued arrest warrants against the two suspects at the request of the delegate Anna Paula Marien, responsible for the investigations.

The Civil Police also arrested Márcio Ferreira Gonçalves, Inês’s husband and Bruno’s stepfather, already wanted for the crime, and his brother Eder Gonçalves Rodrigues, who confessed to having participated in the double murder. They were in a house in the center of Alta Floresta.

According to the police, Eder confessed to having participated in the crime, claiming that he was the one who entered the house and shot Inês and Bruno. During the execution of the crime, Márcio remained in the Ford Ranger truck, outside the residence, waiting to help his accomplices escape.

Motivation

According to what was ascertained by Fantástico, Inês was a tenant of “Polaco” for more than a year and lived in the house where the crimes took place. According to the owner, when she returned the property, she left behind a rent debt, as well as damaging security cameras and other property.

In subsequent communications, Inês stated that she would repair the damage caused to the house, which never materialized. “Polaco” then decided to take the case to court, but was unable to hold it responsible for the losses.

A few hours before the attack, Inês and her husband had filed a complaint against the owner of the house, claiming that they had been threatened because of an old rent debt.

When questioned about the report, delegate Anna Marien stressed that it is not yet possible to determine the exact motivation for the crime.

“May she pay for what she did. Her, her children, her husband, her husband’s brother,” “Polaco” said. “What will become of him? [Rui] Now? The desire, the memories, the advice he gave me. The desire to know that I will never see him again is what hurts me the most. My son asks me all the time,” Raquel complained excitedly.

On TV Globo, Angelita Kemper, Inês’s lawyer, stated that her client “reported having suffered numerous threats due to this act, to the point that the other party did not like that the judge’s decision was unfavorable to him. He didn’t want it to lose its value.”

The defense of Bruno, Inês’ son, asked the doctor for psychiatric treatment, which was granted during the custody hearing. Márcio Ferreira’s lawyer has asked for the pre-trial detention to be revoked and awaits the court’s decision. His brother’s lawyer, Éder, did not take a stand.
