Please note that it is best to finish season 1 before reading this article.
A few days ago, Netflix launched Dead Boy Detectives online, a fantasy series set in the same universe as Sandman (all characters created by Neil Gaiman). The film follows Charles and Edwin, two dead teenagers who investigate paranormal events with ghosts.
Subscribers seem to have responded this weekend, as the series is currently fifth in the top 10 and could climb up the list a bit. It must be said that Dead Boy Detectives has all the ingredients to become a hit: a unique world, two attractive characters and quality special effects.
The final episode of Season 1 sees our two favorite heroes defeat the town witch and free the Cat King from his clutches. So they can return to London, where they are asked, against all odds, to continue their work instead of returning to Hell/Heaven. If all is well for Charles and Edwin, fans will still be mourning the death of a pretty important character: Nico.
Charles, Edwin and Crystal have already appeared in another series!
where is niko
The young woman, played by Yuu Kitamura, became a fan favorite. With his kawaii expression, excessive optimism and kindness, Niko is a little candy that fits the heart. The latter is unfortunately killed by Esther while trying to protect her friends.
But the final moments of the first season let us know that he’s not really dead, but rather that he’s in a place he can’t seem to leave. He reveals in his hand a figure of a bear, which the merchant gave him and which he was supposed to protect. So Nico isn’t really dead, showrunner Steve Yoke seems to confirm in the interview :
“I would say that wherever he is, he’s going to have a long way to go before he’s reunited with his family.”
Which family are you talking about? from mother from his friends? or his father Although the latter lost his life a few months ago, Niko is sure that his soul is still somewhere. We can well imagine a young girl going in search of him.
But it’s still a little early to answer all our questions. As of now, Netflix has yet to renew Dead Boy Detectives for Season 2, and we’ll have to wait a few weeks to find out if the series has picked up internationally.
